Boston Medical Data – One technology platform to manage your anesthesia practice.

About Boston Medical Data (BMD) and Dr. Albert Woo

Dr. Albert Woo is an anesthesiologist who is double boarded in medical informatics. He began his career by bringing information technologies into a large anesthesia practice after residency. His anesthesia software charting system was acquired by a national billing company in 2015. Dr. Woo subsequently created BMD with the goal of creating a single technology platform that will manage the entire practice of anesthesia. Our system covers staff scheduling, payroll, anesthesia documentation, and billing. In short, we give you the ability to aggregate this data with customized reporting for a transparent view of your practices.

How is BMD using data science and AI to help anesthesia practices?

Traditionally it has been difficult for anesthesia practices to analyze their operations using advanced data analytics. At BMD we are the first company that can combine scheduling, payroll, operating room, and billing metrics together to create a platform to better streamline your operations. Not every practice can maintain a team of data scientists and AI developers, BMD is here to bring the latest technologies to the practice of anesthesia.

What kind of tasks can BMD AI agents perform?

Anesthesia profitability comes down to the ability to collect service payments and to optimize proper staffing models to the demands of the facilities. Practices have all developed their own systems to make sure all cases are billed, denials are handled, and payments deposited into bank accounts. BMD has developed numerous agents to help anesthesia practices operate at their most efficient level. Here are some of the examples:

  • Your scheduler can identify staffing shortfalls as facilities add cases to their schedule in real-time.
  • Get SMS confirmation from per-diem and locum part-time staff to make sure they are aware of a shift the following day.
  • Make sure all anesthesia records are accurately completed before sending them to the billing team.
  • Identify out of network patients to allow proper compliance with the “no surprise bill” act.
  • Audit billing charges to make sure all procedures such as nerve blocks are billed.
  • Identify insurance payments that deviate from contractual rates.
  • Provide key performance indicators (KPI) to the facilities to demonstrate the quality of anesthesia services.
  • Provide OR scheduling analysis to help facility minimize non-billable anesthesia times.
  • Audit denials and provide feedback to providers to prevent future denials.
  • Create a customized reporting platform for the executive team to use the data we provide to negotiate better contracts and run most efficiently
